Artists needed for Entry into ING Discerning Eye 2008 exhibition

17th June 2008

The ING Discerning Eye invites artists to submit works for its annual exhibition in 2008. Sponsored by ING Wholesale Banking, this is an exhibition of small works independently selected by six prominent figures from the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics.

Among the selectors this year are television journalist and broadcaster, Jon Snow; head of National Programmes at the British Museum, Frances Carey; Royal Academician Fred Cuming and collector and former Chairman of Discerning Eye, Bob Benton. Each selector curates one section of the exhibition, drawing his or her own selection from works submitted by the public and the works of artists they have personally invited to exhibit. Each selector is given their own hanging space within the gallery, so that all six sections have distinct personalities.

The works of lesser-known artists therefore appear alongside those of established artists, awarded the stamp of approval by a fellow artist, collector, or critic. The uniqueness of having each work chosen by an eminent individual, unlike in a group selected show, has earned the exhibition an excellent reputation among art lovers and collectors alike. Each year, the exhibition helps to connect hundreds of new artists with new audiences.

Painting, prints, drawing, photography and sculpture are accepted, the only criteria being, first, that works should not exceed 20 inches in their largest dimension and, secondly, all works must be for sale. Artists may submit up to six works.

Regional collection points will be provided across the UK. The London submission days are 5 and 6 September 2008 at the Mall Galleries, SW1. Further information and entry forms are downloadable from www.parkerharris.co.uk. Alternatively send an SAE to The ING Discerning Eye, PO Box 279, Esher, Surrey, KT10 8YZ.

For general information, telephone 01372 462190 or email DE@parkerharris.co.uk
