Figurative - Floren Gallery in Poole host figurative based work

8th September 2008

Floren Gallery in Poole will this month play host to a brand new exhibition of fantastic figurative-based work, running from Tuesday 23rd September until Saturday 18th October. 'Figure' will include works from multiple genres, yet with a concurrent theme based upon the body.

The subject of the body in art has a long and important history; within 'Figure', Floren will of course touch on the classical nude with timeless works by renowned figurative artist David Knight. His beautifully painted canvases are simple, soft studies of the female form in his archetypal elegant style. World famous artists Melissa Mailer Yates and Katya Gridneva will bring a touch of mature sophistication to the show, with Melissa having had sell out shows throughout theUK, New York and Los Angeles and Katya having recently exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London.

As well as established artists, some emerging artists will be showing works during 'Figure'. Nina Ribeiro's precise contemporary figures are sure to please, as are Paul Lemmon's seductively flamboyant women. On the other side of the spectrum is Russ Mills with his meticulous urban drawings, depicting post-modern women with a contemporary perspective. 'Figure' will also include a range of figurative - themed sculptures and books, as well as Floren's signature stunning giftware selection. The show will open with an evening preview on Tuesday 23rd of September.

Headline: Give a painting as rent and make £9m!

If you are an artist and you have no money, what is the first thing you offer as rent? A painting of course. ‘Turning on the light’ by Francis Bacon is exactly that. At a stage in his life before his art was recognised and when he had little more than pennies in his pocket, he offered the painting as rent to the Royal College of Art, London and they took him in.
