Today is the launch of Damien Hirst's latest exhibit, 'For the love of god' at the White Cube gallery, London.
The piece is the most expensive exhibit of modern art ever created! The piece consists of 8,601 shimmering diamonds including a golf ball sized diamond which covers a platinum cast of a real human skull. The diamond alone are worth £12,000,000.
The sale price for this item is a mere £50,000,000! Damien Hirst's business manager is rather concerned that this is too cheap. Hirst was worried that the piece of modern art would look too 'bling' and that it might appear tacky. Once completed, he was happy with the finished article.
A photographer who was banned from taking photographs due to security concerns commented that the modern art exhibit resembled a disco glitter ball. A £50m disco glitter ball.
The exhibition is free to the public but admission is by timed ticket and only groups of ten can view the modern art exhibit at any one time.
The rest of the exhibition includes classic Hirst exhibits including sliced sharks, butterflies on canvas and cows.
