Interview with Jerwood artist Sally Kindberg

Sally Kindberg is an up and coming Swedish artist who is gaining attention fast. She has recently been exhibiting as part of the Jerwood contemporary painters. Lets get to know Sally a bit better:

1. Background of yourself/Biography of yourself up until present day

I was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1970. Started my career as an underground train driver. From 2004-07 I studied for a BA in Fine Art and Contemporary Critical Theory at Goldsmiths College, from 2002-04 Foundation at Nordic School of Art, Kokkola, Finland.

2. Explain your style of art

My art is uncanny, colourful and often quite horrible yet cute. I think my pictures are very humorous, but I have heard from other people that they find them dark. I often emphasises on banal and silly things in life, objects and animals I find interesting.

3. Who are your influences?

My influences are myself and my surroundings. I am very observant. Otherwise I like Henri Rousseau and the sound of haggis.

4. Where do you seek inspiration for your art?

It is really what is going on in my life. I am like a sponge.

5. Where did your desire to become an artist come from?

From a very dark spot in my brain...
