Brenda Hartill, Trevor Price and Mychael Barratt

8th April 2008

The Good The Bad and The Ugly

This group exhibition from the artists Brenda Hartill, Trevor Price and Mychael Barratt brings together rare and early works as well as recent prints. The works represent a wide variety of artistic approach, and are challenging, amusing and sexy. All three artists are members of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers and have been friends and fellow contributors to many shows over the years. All three exhibit widely throughout the country, and internationally.

On Saturday 19th April from 2-6pm, the artists will be in the gallery to discuss their ideas and techniques, along with a display of the printing plates, proofs, and materials used in the production of their very different original print works.

Trevor Price

Trevor is a painter and printmaker dividing his time between studios in London and St.Ives. Initially at Falmouth and Winchester Schools of Art, he built up his skills in a London based etching studio and since then he has exhibited widely, and his work has generated a large following. Full of subtle sexual references the paintings and prints by Trevor Price are full of the joys of life. Naked couples can be seen drinking tea at a kitchen table, relaxing on a sofa, or perhaps racing through a jungle in a crazy spontaneous moment.

Brenda Hartill

Brenda Hartill's speciality is textural embossed etchings and collagraphs, and she has recently written a book, 'Collagraphs and Mixed-media Printmaking', which is now into its second printing. She also uses collage extensively to produce large unique mixed media works, encaustic wax paintings, and mixed-media acrylic and watercolours. She recently left London to set up a studio in Sussex, where she will be holding printmaking courses in the summer. This is a rare opportunity so view many of her early figurative works, as well as a selection of her more recent abstract pieces, including large unique pieces.

Mychael Barratt

Mychael was born in Toronto, Canada but thinks of himself as a Londoner since arriving for what was meant to be a two week stay twenty years ago. He has that immigrant's zeal for his adopted home and includes local settings that have a personal resonance in much of his work. He is a narrative artist and anecdotal incidents from his day-to-day life which he gathers like a magpie are at the heart of his paintings and prints. Mychael was recently commissioned by A & C Black to write a book on intaglio printmaking, which is out shortly.
