I’m sure even without realising it that when you are in the countryside where there is lush green grass, colourful flowers and trees you feel happy. When you go to the city where the buildings are grey concrete and the ground is paved as far as the eye can see you feel less happy. This is no coincidence, it has been proven that colour is a key player in determining the mood you are in.
Allbuyart.com who distribute art information and act as a retailer for artists carried out some informal research on the relationship between colour and mood. They randomly chose 50 candidates and placed bright vibrant yellows, oranges and reds in the candidates houses for 3 months. At the end of the 3 month period the candidates were asked how they felt. Allbuyart.com then replaced those vibrant colours with dull greys and browns for a period of three months and asked the candidates how they felt and to compare their mood to how it was 3 months ago. 70% of candidates said that they felt happier after the first 3 months (when the vibrant colours were used).
These results highlight the extent to which colour plays a role in our life.
