Is contemporary, abstract and modern art a waste of time?
If you are heavily into modern art chances are that you don’t really care for traditional art. Chances are, if you agree with the title of this article you aren’t into modern art.
There are people in between whom like both traditional and modern art but the percentage is low. Most people feel strongly about either modern art or traditional art, not both.
So let’s take the view from the point of a traditional art lover. The traditional art lover enjoys form and the artist’s skills and ability to recreate the visual identity of an object or scene. Creativity doesn’t come into play, to enjoy a piece of traditional art, the willingness to cooperate and respond to the ideas of a painting isn’t needed unlike with modern art.
Modern art lovers enjoy the need to respond to a painting and to cooperate by using creativity and imagination when viewing a modern or abstract art painting or instalment.
The reason why there is such a battle between traditional art and modern art lovers is because their minds are different. Modern art lovers experience greater activity in the right side of the brain which makes that person more creative.
Traditional art lovers clearly love form and a real representation of form whereas modern art and abstract art lovers are willing to accept new, creative ideas and enjoy the relationship between colour, texture and shape.
You might say that traditional art lovers are not creative and are unimaginative if you are a modern art lover.
Is contemporary, abstract and modern art a waste of time?
Ultimately it’s down to preference, traditional art isn’t loved buy modern art lovers because their brain is looking for something more creative. Modern art isn’t loved by traditional art lovers because their brain is more logical and therefore there isn’t a need for a creative response when viewing a painting.
The battle between modern art lovers and traditional art lovers will continue!
