Giles Dawe is an English artist, currently living and painting full time in Zhuhai, China. Previously studied under Terry Setch at the University of Wales Cardiff and at l'ecole des Beaux Arts Nantes, France.
His work portrays realistic scenes around him with a touch of surrealism, inspired by Magritte and Dali. The medium of choice is oils on canvas but he has already experimented with painting on sculptured wood blocks borne by the restrictions of painting on square or rectangled areas.
The pieces contain personal meanings, hidden figures or expressively directing the viewer to a particular section of the picture through the use of a certain colour. Giles also wrote a 5000+ word essay solely on the colour blue explaining its impact and meaning in society.
He has an ongoing exhibition with State of the Arts Gallery in Hong Kong and another upcoming exhibition in HK in Mid June 2010.
Future works will combine painting and sculpture together and will follow on from the theme of depicting his surroundings.
